How To Upload YouTube Video
Uploading a video to YouTube is a simple process. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do it:
Step 1: Sign in to Your YouTube Account
- Go to YouTube.
- Sign in with your Google account (the same one you used to create your YouTube channel).
Step 2: Click the Upload Button
- In the top right corner of YouTube, you’ll see an icon of a camera with a “+” sign (it’s next to your profile picture).
- Click this icon, and then click “Upload Video”.
Step 3: Choose Your Video File
- You’ll be directed to YouTube Studio, where you can upload your video.
- Click “Select Files” to browse your computer for the video you want to upload.
- Choose the video file from your computer, and the upload will begin.
Step 4: Add Video Details
While your video is uploading, you can fill out the following details:
1. Title
- Choose a descriptive and engaging title for your video. This is crucial for attracting viewers. Make sure it reflects the content of your video.
2. Description
- Add a detailed description of your video. This helps viewers know what your video is about and can improve searchability.
- Include relevant keywords in your description (these can help your video rank higher in YouTube search).
3. Thumbnail
- You can either choose one of the auto-generated thumbnails or upload your own custom thumbnail. Custom thumbnails (recommended size: 1280 x 720 pixels) are more effective in attracting clicks.
- Thumbnails should be visually appealing and relevant to your video.
4. Tags
- Add tags (keywords) related to your video content. Tags help YouTube understand the topic of your video, which can improve its search visibility.
5. Video Location (optional)
- If your video is location-specific (e.g., a travel vlog), you can add the location to your video.
6. Playlist (optional)
- You can add your video to a playlist if you have one, helping viewers discover related content on your channel.
7. Video Language and Captions (optional)
- You can set the video language, add captions (if available), or enable automatic captions.
8. Video Category
- Select the category that best fits your video (e.g., Music, Comedy, Education, etc.).
9. Audience Settings
- Choose whether the video is made for kids or not for kids. This is part of YouTube’s compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
- You must answer the question about whether your video is made for children.
Step 5: Video Monetization (Optional)
If you meet the eligibility requirements (e.g., 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours), you can enable monetization on your video.
- If monetization is enabled on your account, you’ll have the option to turn ads on or off for your video.
Step 6: Video Visibility
You’ll choose who can see your video:
1. Public
- Your video will be visible to everyone on YouTube.
- It will appear in search results, recommendations, and on your channel.
2. Unlisted
- Only people who have the link to your video can view it.
- It won’t show up in YouTube search or on your channel, but you can share the link.
3. Private
- Only you and specific users you invite can view the video.
- It won’t show up in search, recommendations, or on your channel.
4. Scheduled (optional)
- If you want your video to go live at a specific time, you can choose the Scheduled option and set the date and time for the video to be published.
Step 7: Advanced Settings (Optional)
- Comments: Choose whether or not to allow comments on your video.
- Video License: Select the standard YouTube license or Creative Commons (if you want others to reuse your video).
- Age Restrictions: Mark if the video contains mature content.
- Monetization: Enable or disable ads for your video if applicable.
Step 8: Finish Upload
- Once you’ve added all the details, click “Next” to move through any additional options (such as adding subtitles or end screens).
- If you’ve selected everything and feel ready to publish, click “Publish”. If you’ve scheduled the video for a later date, click “Schedule”.
Step 9: Video Processing
- Once uploaded, YouTube will process your video. This may take a few moments depending on the video file size and quality.
- You’ll receive a notification when the video has been processed and is available for viewing.
Step 10: Promote Your Video
- Once your video is live, consider promoting it through your social media channels, email newsletters, or other platforms to increase visibility.
- Engage with comments to build a community around your channel.
Additional Tips:
- Optimize Your Video: Ensure your title, description, and tags are optimized for search engines. This will help your video rank better on YouTube.
- Engage Your Audience: Encourage viewers to like, comment, and subscribe. This can improve your video’s visibility.
- Add End Screens & Cards: Use end screens and cards to promote other videos on your channel or encourage viewers to subscribe.
- Check Analytics: Monitor how your video performs by checking YouTube Analytics for insights on viewership and engagement.
